The 2015 Breeders Cup World Championship, which matches the top thoroughbred horses around the world is set for October 30-31 at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky. Although this is where the ideas was conceived, it will be the first time the Breeders Cup will be held there. With a great track set in the center of horse racing country, it promises to be a spectacular event.
This “Super Bowl” of racing was held at Santa Anita in 2014. The top race, the “Classic”, which boasts North America’s largest purse at $5,000,000.00, was won by Bayern, trained by Bob Baffert (Hist First). Toast of New York was second and California Chrome finished third. California Chrome, the 2014 winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness was named 2014 “Horse of the Year” in January 2015. Chrome has won 9 of 16 starts, earning over $4,000,000.00 and giving California some of the respect it deserves as a player in thoroughbred breeding and racing. His scheduled first start for 2015 is at Santa Anita on February 7th. Chrome may also start in the $10,000,000.00 Dubai World Cup on March 28th, 2015.
