The Kentucky Derby is ran annually on the first Saturday of May. Known as the “Greatest Two Minutes in Sports”, for the approximate time it takes a thoroughbred to run the historic Churchill Downs track.
Justify won the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby, leading the pack through the muddy track. The 3 year old colt was the favorite going into the race. The favorite has won six years in a row now. Justify’s win won Bob Baffert his fifth Kentucky Derby Trophy.
Justify became the first horse since 1882 to win the Kentucky Derby without racing as a two year old. Justify attracted attention after an impressive win in February that also lead him to win the Grade I Santa Anita Derby. The Kentucky Derby win has made him also a Preakness favorite.
